Re: browsing the forum
I usually hit the back arrow on my browser...it's in the upper left. Actually, I usually continue to do that until I get to the level that I want to go the other direction. I think of a forum as a Christmas tree...as I click into a region of the forum and then into threads, it's like starting at the top of the tree and going to the next branch, then the next. To get back to top of the tree, I just continue to back up to the previous branch, and previous, etc.

Personally, I always open everything in a new tab, and then the original page is still open.
BUT, to do what you asked, other than using "back," look up right under the logo, and it shows "Board index < BMW MOTORCYCLES < Post 1970 Airheads." You can click on any of these to go back to the particular page you want.

You might want to say how to do that...it's not intuitively obvious. Right click the mouse (PCs...I don't know about Macs) and select Open in New Tab or Open in New Window.Major Softie wrote:Personally, I always open everything in a new tab, and then the original page is still open.
Hey, works for me! I'm a linear guy...go one direction then back up where I came from.Rob wrote:Christmas trees???
If you don't open a new tab/window, I think (only my opinion and my limited understanding of computers and webpages) that it is technically faster to use the back arrow to return to where you were. Remember that when you click on something, you are downloading that information to your computer. If you "go back", it's my understanding that you don't necessarily redownload that page, but rather pull it from your local cache. This is faster than relying on download speeds. There may be other settings that compensate for all this, but not having to redownload something seems like it would be faster.

After finishing with a thread, I scroll back to the top, and either select the sub-forum I am in, to read a different thread in there; or, I scroll back to the top and click on Board Index to go to the root to see what new things might have been posted.
If I use the back arrow, the forum does not remember I have read a thread (take away the red highlights) until I refresh the page. As anal as I am, I have to do it the "right" way.

I didn't know there was a "right" way! I read what I'm going to read in one sitting, go back to the main forum page (usually click on Board Index in the upper left), select all forums read, and move on. Works for me!Rob wrote:If I use the back arrow, the forum does not remember I have read a thread (take away the red highlights) until I refresh the page. I specifically chose not to do so because it varies not only with different computers, but also between different browsers, and most have more than one way to do it.Kurt in S.A. wrote:You might want to say how to do that...it's not intuitively obvious. If anyone needs to know their various options, check the Help section of your browser.
