Well I went to an autojumble and picked up a pair of casings and when I got home I realised I had two left handed ones! The sleeves for the carb connecting pipes are different and one has holes in the rear. What I'm trying to do is fit a /5 tank to my Mono, after sorting the electrics so that they will clear the tank I found that the tank fouled the air filter box - so I want to use the pre '81 filter housing and need the best ones using 40mm Bings. Cheers

It sounds like you need to go back to the junk yard and trade in a left for a right.

OH, you mean pre 80 airbox halves.
Here in the states the 80 was the first year for the flat aircleaner.
had me confused for a minute.
There was no specific air box for the 40mm carbs, it was all made up with the rubber attachments.
The 77RS is the bike I use for reference when doing what you are doing. I guess you had to relocate all the tabs under the tank for the electrics?
If it's any consolation, the airtubes never fit that well on the 40mm Bings with the aluminum airbox.
They only had to deal with it for 3 years so they didn't try to do anything spectacular with the fitment.

Well I pulled the shaft apart and as Stephen suggested, the spring was broke. Should be an easy fix. Thanks for the replies.

My guess is, Kreece responded to the wrong thread... My bet would be, he meant to respond to this thread.

It's all downhill from here. Except for the uphill bits.
