Looking for a R100S - I think... Please Advise

Hi,

So it sounds like the consensus is that I should pass on the red non-matching bike for the price, even if I can get a few hundred off. It's pretty and runs for now but it's not really a good deal.

Another thing I was wondering about is insurance.
What's going to happen when the insurance company reads "salvage" on the title? Will that make it more expensive or difficult to insure?

It's a nice looking bike but it certainly seems overpriced to me.

If you already have a bike insured, Ask your current agent how they'd feel about a title that says "salvage".
It varies from company to company.
what the DMV thinks is another thing. Read about SALVAGE TITLE on the California DMV website, then ask more questions.
A really good to Question to ask FIRST is WHY the title says salvage.
Sometimes it's just because the former Ins. co. totaled the bike out for what we'd conside a minor mishap but their valuation was low and they didn't want to spend restoration money.

I am in CA and own a Subaru with a salvage title. I saved around $5000 that way. Now I have a problem with it. The corner that was crashed, front passenger side, and replaced, has a sensor that is in alarm. Only official dealers have the software to deal with it. They won't touch a salvage car. I am not sure how to proceed. As it is now, I just drive around assuming that the passenger air bag won't deploy.

I am telling you this to give you an idea of what can happen later on. Thank goodness I live in a nanny state that is looking out for me.

Actually, if California were as much of a nanny state as everyone says, they WOULD protect you in this instance and wouldn't allow the dealer to refuse to work on your car.

Thankfully airhead BMW's don't have airbag sensors.

And try and find a mechanic to work on one (the airhead, MS). Well, in CA maybe...

Hi,

Found another one. I honestly thought it was gone and only emailed to ask if it was available. The reply says it's still for sale. I've seen ads that have been up for months. The bike is long gone but the ads are still floating around.

Now this one is a bit different and I'm not sure if I'm overshooting the mark here:

1993 R100R 120,000 miles on the clock.
All the ad really states is that the shock and rear tire are less than a year old and the starter and battery are new. Comes with cases and original seat. He is planning on riding it to work today so obviously it's running and registered.

Mileage seems very high, but I hear these motorcycles are very durable and it's not uncommon to find ones with 200,000 miles and still going strong.
I'm just worried that this might mean a big, expensive service is in the near future. Another problem is it's not near me, so I'd have to fly up or have it shipped. I'm not sure which is the least hassle.

Any thoughts on this model or the mileage?
And very important: What would be a fair price?

Plenty of life still with that mileage, if its been maintained, look for history.
I am not a fan of the styling, I remember when they came out, i got excited by the reviews until i saw them in the showrooms... they look odd with that GS tank. That one has character though, it would make a good rally bike.
No idea what it would be worth in the US. Not a lot I would guess where low mileage "classic" models seem to abound.

No.
It was a weird ad that bounced to other pages (some with a price others not) where the original ad was, but then I never really got a number I felt was real. I seem to recall seeing $2000. something somewhere, but I think the guy is also open to a trade so he might have been vague for that reason. I don't know enough yet.
