I think that's just an aberration in the photo, but I see what you're talking about.Duane Ausherman wrote:The photo wasn't made to show the ring gear, but it looks like it may have a broken off tooth.

When shown this exact photo, another long time Airhead owner stated, "I can't see any splines in that wheel hub." <sigh>

"I can't see any splines in that wheel hub."
I am so blind that I don't even see a wheel hub.
Go back to that photo and zoom in. It really looks like a broken off tooth.

Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

There is no wheel hub, spline cup or wheel to see. Gentleman with many years messing with Airheads simply did not recognize the Cardan cover. He responded with the above quoted comment. Just misinterpreted the photo. It can happen...Duane Ausherman wrote:"I can't see any splines in that wheel hub."

No need to zoom in. I pulled the crown gear, examined crown gear/pinion gear, cup splines and took the photo.

Re: /7 rear drive wear
Update:
The old drive........I put on a few more hundreds of miles around town with the old drive. Last gear oil drain check -- the black pan of gear oil looked like I'd been panning for gold dust.....lots and lots of shiny yellow specks all over the bottom of the oil catch pan.
I've gotten in a eBay R90S rear drive with 30k miles on it to replace the one on the /7. Splines on the 'new' replacement look excellent and the rear drive turns freely. The bike is on the lift, rear tire off along too with all related nuts, shock, etc removed. The old drive is seems quite "stuck" on the drive shaft housing. Imagine it's the gasket adhesion? I've not attempted hardly any prying or banging yet. What's the method to release the old rear drive from the driveshaft?

New rear drive in place. In the morning I'lll unleash the beast from the lift and attempt to terrorize the neighborhood. Or not. Maybe the old rear drive will find a place on the fireplace mantle. It took me 100k around this planet.

We must be looking at different photos. From the photo I looked at again, I stand by my statement. Or we could be using different terms for the same item.
