Good point Chuey. Not sure if Sibbo's ST has a headlight relay as oe?Chuey wrote:Isn't there something like an advantage for the actual switch in using a relay?

Definitely figure some way to put a relay in the circuit.
Whenever we add some new 'consumer' to the oe BMW wiring, we are putting a strain on the wiring and it's running at nearly 100% load anyhow.
ALSO, even if the old wiring carries the load, and does not toast the insulation, the voltage drop is greater with smaller wires so the new consumer does not see the optimum voltage for it''s operation.
Ya get that?
I used all my biggest words.

I checked out the Jaycar light today, it looks good , well made with all stainless fastenings but it's a big beast !
As an aside does anyone know how many lumens our standard high beams put out ? It's hard to compare the LED spot with what I already have !

A standard GE 50w quartz halogen puts out about 900 lumens,
Cree LED XML 10w are about 1000 lumens.
Cree LED XML 10w are about 1000 lumens.

Thanks Joe ! Wow ! The 20w LEDs pump out 2000 lumens each ... that's 4 1/2 times the standard high beam !!

I want a set of these:

If I had just forked out 15 grand for a big new GS, I wouldn't hesitate to put something like that on it. So why think twice about putting them on the R65, except that I'm the kind of person who would never consider paying 15 grand for a motorcycle in the first place.
What I need to do is quit riding in the dark.

I believe, with a set of those, you will no longer be riding in the dark.enigmaT120 wrote: Don't forget to report back!

Good one sibbo, be interesting to see the results.
Enigma - while that unit may look & have some impressive stats and extras, IMO it comes up short on specs.
They do not list what LED chip is used, but acording to those stats they are using the Bridgelux 12w LED which only produces 800 lumens of light per chip. That equates to 20% less light @ 20% more power consumption than the Cree LED. They do not list beam angle or options to change to it.
The other thing that is different, and they push it like it is something enique to their unit, is the ability to dim the lights with 3 settings. Umm, all LED's can be made dimable with the addition of a simple dimming module (cost about $3 USD).
It is nice they have rolled it all into a tidy small unit.

Joe, I understood the last sentence of your post.
That's not a complaint, as I can learn anything. I just haven't studied that stuff at all.
