Mal, I just now changed my avatar to a more up to date image of the /7. The locale of the photo is near Ken's cabin, taken last May.

The main tank is a ten gallon Hein Gericke.

In regards to your question, there's two of them, one on each side. Those are called Luftmeister Auxiliary Tanks. One gallon each. They just tap into the gas line loop. If you're lucky, you can find them on Ebay. Luftmeister has been out of business since the early ninties.
They originally retailed for 150 bucks. I've seen them go for upwards of 400 on Ebay bidding. I was lucky and bought two sets years ago, one for 200, and another for my RS for 250 bucks....

I hate stopping at gas stations all the time.
A big plus -- I don't have to worry so much about fuel when I out in the boonies.

That must test the brakes when you are fully fuelled and loaded up?
I am converting my front end to twin-disc, have all the parts ready, just procrastinating, pretty happy with the current brakes now that I have the motobins / magura handlebar mounted m/c ..... but .. . the under tank m/c is the oem thing and part of their character I reckon.

I don't mind the fuel stops so much.... though another 100km range would be good at times. If I ever see them tanks might throw in a bid.
