Wanted: pictures of /5s with a S-fairing

Post by StephenB »

I would like to put the S-fairing on my /5 that I got from Ken years ago as a pretty banged up project. Anybody have or know of any good front and sideview pictures to see the proportions well?

Thanks, Stephen

Are you looking for details of the mounting system too ? (I could actually use that) There's quite a few views here: http://www.omnilex.com/public/bmw78/ and this: Image or even: Image

There are a couple here: http://www.cafeboxer.com/WebScrapings/slash5.htm

The second fairng here, http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/bmw/bmwboxer.htm has the smaller headlight hole, which may help.

And there are a couple of pics here: http://www.boxercafe.com/BMWSfairings.htm for reference.

I was really specifically interested in only a /5 with an S-fairing (not S-fairings per se) to see how that looks. I think one can use the standard S-type mounting hardware without any changes, the rubber ring to prevent rain and dirt form entering through the gap between headlight and fairing opening could be to0 large in diameter for the /5 headlight, how can that be intelligently resolved?

Tim, anymore high-resolution pics of that smaller picture of the /5 with the solo seat and S-fairing? Can you elaborate on mounting hardware?

Thanks, Stephen

Sorry, no more pics of that bike. Aren't pix of real R90S what you need to calculate the angle of the dangle etc.? Regarding the mounts; I have an aftermarket S fairing that fits my /5 headlight bucket, but it has slightly different mounting points. I could use something more than the MaxBMW fiche to figure out how it all fits together. Maybe you could document your progress with some pictures. As for sealing around the headlight (thinking way outside the box here) how about using a section of the engine compartment seal from an aircooled VW (it's rubber with a "V" shaped cross section) ....or a strip of closed pore foam, not as elegant though.

I will document it, but it'll be Fall until I have time to seriously start work on it.
