I just love an ad selling an item saying that no one who owns these ever sells them.

I can totally see his point. He is in the trade. I see the point that "he" owns them and is selling them, but I take his statement to mean that other peeps usually don't. Also, having watched his auctions and having bought some things from him in the past, he uses the English language at a much different level than you do, Kurt.

Still, he did a nice job setting up for his photo.

So what's a good minimum price for those? I've got a friend who posts items with high reserves just to see what they're worth.
If I wasn't forking out $3000 to get the grenaded Vanagon back on the road I might be tempted. I knew a guy with a set of Krausers once. the bike was in a completely different league.

So few of those kits change hands now and they vary in condition so much that the old saying "They're worth what ever someone is willing to pay" applies. I would guess that 3 grand would be in the neibourhood.

BTW, did you buy or build an engine for the Vanagon? And if you bought one, what did you buy?

I'm rebuilding it myself...although I'm getting help from NW Connecting Rod in Seattle because I no longer have a bottom end or usable case. They found me a case and are preparing a crank and cam for it. I hope to have it all back together in a few weeks. I'll be using 96mm Wiseco Pistons, a 76mm crank, a little more duration on the cam, 1.25 ratio rockers, and a high volume Oil pump. We'll be using some modified ARP bolts on the Con rods that aren't going to snap...ever.
I'm getting started on the airhead. The MI (Siebenrock) pistons are in getting .028" added to the intake pockets for the 336.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same kit that was advertised on CraigsList in Sacramento last year for $2500.

At that price, I'm surprised that the stuff didn't sell but the owner is fishing in much deeper waters now and his reserve might be higher.

If you're wanting to build a new engine and want a set of 4-valves, there it is and I'd I'd probably suggest that you buy it. You probably won't see another set-up like this for a long time !

I aquired a set years ago but have been reluctant to install them based on comments at Luftmeister about the spring pressures and inertia forces flattening the cam lobes and then ruining the oil pump rotor surfaces. Still need rings and plugs for them. Any good sources for Krauser spares in the US?
