Forum Access?

Post by Kurt in S.A. »

Anyone else having issues with access to the forum? Over the course of a day, and for the last month or so, I'm seeing two different screens that suggest no access to the forum. One mentions boxerworks doesn't support a secure connection with https://. But then later when I get back to the forum, I can see the URL is indeed https: just as it does right now. The second situation is where I get a box on the screen that mentions a general error...that boxerworks has more than the max user connections [1203]. I know that another forum I'm on has had to deal with a denial of service attack in which the website just gets hammered with all kinds of bots that prevent anyone from gaining access. Not sure if something like that is happening here.

Yes Kurt, the forum has been struggling for a while due to too many connections at the same time. We are only allowed 30 connections at the same time, which is really not that many. Seems that we may have a denial of service attack randomly hitting boxerworks. Not sure what to do about it. I contacted support for the boxerworks host (shock hosting) and they gave a few suggestions such as rearranging the database connections so each has it's own user for login. They said they cannot increase the number of connections because we are on a shared service. The price is cheap but if you need more connections the price would go up.

But the problem continues randomly. It's quite annoying. Some bozo out there has nothing better to do and uses up all of our available connections.

I'll try contacting support again but they are not likely to be much help.

Thanks for the info. On the other forum that has had the DNS attacks, they finally resorted to using a service from Cloudflare. Of course that costs money. But the web guy over there is quite savvy so if he couldn't figure a way to deal with the attack, then there's probably not a lot that can be done. It's a shame that idiots out there are using their talents to hurt other people...just to have fun.
