Re: Mono vs twin shock pannier frame fitting?
The Monoshock frames and the twinshock pannier frames are different and won't fit... certainly not in a 'bolt on' sense. To add to the mix, frames for the: a) Short wheelbase /5 series, b) The R45/R65 series, c) The GS/LS series, d) The 'R' series also won't fit. You need to source a set from a twin...

Re: Dead R65
A bit late now... but for what it's worth, the arrangement described above (i.e. all of the current passing through the starter relay) doesn't apply to the R45/R65 models, the R80LS or the monoshock models. On these models, the battery power to the starter relay is fed via a spur from the main power...

Re: E5/E10 Petrol
I've run on E10 apart from a few 'test' fill ups with E5 since it first came in. Can't say that I've noticed any real performance difference apart from a slight reduction in fuel consumption (less than 10%) which is what you would expect. Also no issues with degradation of plastics so far. I do wond...

Re: 1970 R75/5 chassis wiring harness question
This has been pretty well covered by gspd but I can't resist the invitation to elaborate... The coil of the solenoid has a very low electrical resistance... it has to have so it can carry enough current to pull in the solenoid. This means that if you put a bulb in series with a twelve volt ba...

Re: R75/6 LED turn signals. Dash light won’t flash
They (diodes) aren't rated in watts and you can't infer a wattage by multiplying amps by volts since the two ratings refer to different conditions. That's why I asked what specific diode you (Rob) would recommend for this application. The few times I've needed diodes for a project, I would simply e...

Re: R75/6 LED turn signals. Dash light won’t flash
Rectifier Diodes are rated are rated by voltage and current. The voltage is the reverse voltage that the diode will take before it fails i.e. the blocking voltage), the current is the maximum current the diode will carry in the forward direction. They aren't rated in watts and you can't infer a watt...

Re: R75/6 LED turn signals. Dash light won’t flash
Was the relay specifcally sold as suitable for a BMW Rxx/6 model? The flasher circuit is unusual and different to that on most contemporary vehicles including late (post 80) models of the airhead. I'm wondering (based on the packaging) whether this relay is intended for use on a vehicle with a trail...

Re: Spark plug shorting method for carb sync with EME digital ignition system
Not knowing the details of your points booster, I can't really comment but, if it's essentially substituting a semiconductor switch for the points (no matter how triggered)... as you say, the energy dissipated in the igniton system is dependant on the coils rather than the switching method so your ...

Re: Spark plug shorting method for carb sync with EME digital ignition system
There's no getting away from the fact that shorting will increase the HT current many times and while I've used the shorting method on my points booster electronic ignition without any adverse effects it does retain the original points coils which limits the energy being dissipated. Not knowing the...
