Hi Everyone, I just bought a '76 r75.. Pretty good condition but a few problems I need advise with. Firs , when the headlight switch I'd in the head and tail lights don't work. The high beam flasher works and the tail light parking light works when switched on.. Any ideas ..?
Also the bike idles really high after it warms up.. Not sure where to start on that.,!
Any help is really appreciated..

As a general principle, use Google and you can find answers to just about everything you could want.

Try "bmw motorcycle high idle" and see what happens.

Duane's barely helpful answers are getting worse. If you Google the words he has suggested, the first site that will pop up is HIS site. If he won't tell you the answer, heaven forbid that he should give you the link to his site:

By the way, don't put it in quotes (as he did) or all you'll get is this thread with him telling you to Google that phrase.

Your headlight relay may be out. The parking light works on a separate current path than the head + tail light.

The high beam flasher (push down on the button, no?) also has its own power source.

If you open your headlight shell, the headlight relay should be the thing on the lower right. The red wire provides the main power. The yellow/white wire sends power to the dimmer switch for the regular low beam and high beam. The grey wire sends power to the taillight. Make sure they are all connected, and that the red wire is 'hot.'

The green wire comes from the 3 position lightswitch. It should be 'hot' when the switch is set to fully on. The brown or black wire connects to ground. These wires are the ones that will flip the relay.

You should be able to get a replacement relay from your local autoparts store IF you have a patient parts person, and not the moron who asks "make, model and year of car?" There is a schematic on the side of the relay of the configuration of switches inside the thing--any replacement relay Must Match Exactly. There are other relays available in the same size package, they will not work right.

Bill, I type very poorly, so once is enough. That means that it is on my website for all to read and use, or not.

You will find that 4-5 websites contain just about every aspect of your bike.

As melville indicated. Also when you turn the ignition switch on you should hear the headlight relay clicking inside the headlight shell. If not the problem is indeed likely to be the headlight realay. (Or possibly bad electrical connection, of course.)
