Hey guys,

I thought I would chime in with some information on me and my BMW.
My father purchased a 1974 R90/6 in the early 90's from his brother in law. He was never comfortable with passengers so I only admired it from afar as a kid. It always seemed hulking and heavy.

My was diagnosed with Cancer is 2007 and passed in 2011. it didn't get ridden often in those years.
I acquired my motorcycle license 3 years ago and have had a few modern bikes between now and then. I finally decided I could tackle the beast that is the R90 so I tuned her up and insured her this past October with collector plates.

Now I know why my Dad had a grin from ear to ear after every ride! I love this motorcycle dearly and I will never sell it out of respect and joy. I am now 25 and the bike isn't as menacing as when I was a kid.

It currently has 80,400 miles and still running strong. I Don't know much about the history of these bikes but I am fairly certain it is all stock. I also took off the windscreen and I prefer the look much more. I will post photos shortly.

You have a decent model and I hope that you will enjoy it. It can take very good care of you and give great service. Learn about the issues that the 74 had, as it was the first year for a new model.

Welcome aboard, it'll be good to have a 'young' cheeky whipper schnapper here! I'm a bit more than 50 (but a hell of a lot less than sixty) and some help would be appreciated.

I bought a 76 R90 last June, and am loving it, it's a great bike. Modern bikes leave me a bit cold, I like them old and funky. There is a feeling of accomplishment after completing a ride on an old bike, especially one you have brought back from the edge of the abyss.

I'm pretty sure you're the baby of the bunch, but, have no fear, as Duane alludes to, as soon as we get to know you we'll be willing to treat you just as poorly as we treat the oldest of us.

I also own a 74 R90/6. I hope your is in better shape than mine was. I really bought a pig in a poke. Fortunately I had the opportunity to go back to work after retirement on a project and working 12 hour days 6 days a week I had more money than sense and was able to pay a real mechanic to rebuild the engine and do a lot of of other refreshing it sorely needed. But there is nothing more fun than to ride a 40 year old machine with a lot of new bikes. It isn't the fastest, purtiest, smoothest bike I have ever owned. It doesn't compare with my 09 GS. But I always come home with a big grin on my face. Hope you love yours like I love mine!

I bought mine new. Best airhead motor...IMO before they sucked the flywheel and character out of the engine....IMO

Some of us had imaginary friends when we were younger. ZM's imaginary friend was a 74 R90/6. Perfectly ok, IMO.

Mchang18, welcome. I am also afflicted enamoured with a 74 R90/6.
Her name is Brunhilde and she's a wonderful machine for grin-making. She takes me to some great places far from home and always gets me back again. She is teaching me lots about motorcycle 'mechanicking' and poverty wealth management.
