The B&S bike that Reg raced had the R90S fairing mounted to the frame. It would cause instability at speed. The tech inspection never caught it.

hi to all, comparing to my R90 and what i have on mine. the bike has been repainted / fuel cap is a /6 one ( even though one of my bm brouchers actually showing a /6 fuel cap on a R90S tank ) 75 on front discs fitted / missing the black cups on the fork sliders ( has a fork brace on it though ) / whats the go with the choke housing is it just loose ?/ the blinker housings are correct for a 74 / switch gear is correct for a 74 / front foot peg rubbers as mentioned / thought that the 74 had a different seat cover than the 75 on ? / looks like it has a set of R100 shocks on it already mentioned/ kick starter is right for a 74 / what i can see of the handle bar clamps they look to be the right ones , looks to have a raised section / the stuff that i mentioned is correct on he bike is what we get here in australia at the time as far as im aware , well thats my 2 cents worth

Love the R90S. I would not be satisfied with the paint job on this bike. But a proper Silver Smoke Paint job is going to be expensive. If you just want a rider, and it is mechanically sound, make him an offer. But it's a very good time to shop for a clean one.

I asked that question a few days ago and finaly got this reply:
"Hello Garnet
I hope you had a Good Christmas.......as for the VIN number, I am not comfortable giving it out.......the bike is here to look at and it will be evident to a prospective buyer that the information that I have given out....it is what it is!!
Also the receipts concerning the restauration also indicate the make and model of the bike.......so there can be no question as per the authenticity and ownership of the bike. Which at the time of sale can be verified at the Motor Vehicle dept.
Have a good New Year"
So I need to take a few minutes to compose a reply that will not offend yet convince him to at least give me enough of the VIN to cofirm that it is an R90S.
Also I have had a few days now to work on the logistics of owning another bike, finding the cash, getting it home, where to park it so the missus won't notice, not to mention does it run and how much more will it cost once it is downstairs.
Will keep you all posted.

Does not sound good. Reminds me of a president who isn't willing to prove his place of birth, or provide college records.
Let us know how this shakes out.
I took one of the first two R90S that were shipped to my dealership. I loved it, but we just couldn't get enough of them, so I sold it off after a few thousand miles to help satisfy a small part of the demand.
One of the first few I sold got wrecked very badly, so I pulled the drive train and placed it in a new R75/6 that I had sold the drive train for a conversion. While I liked the exotic look of the R90S, it wasn't really my style. I prefered a bit less presence, but this way I got the preformance with the "common look" that I prefer. I rode it for a few years all over the USA and it was a great bike.
Someone in the shop named it the Essex, from the "S" and "/6' parts. Just run them together and out comes Essex.

hi garnet, ok could you ask him for the first three numbers and the last two digits , that well atleast hes not disclosing all the numbers he might be a bit more comfortable with that . atleast youll find out if its close to being a R90S number. but to me, to many right parts are on it , so i personally think that it is a 1974 R90S via the blinker housings and the switch gear. if the price is right ( i hate saying that ) even if it isnt a genuine 90S , the parts alone would be worth a bundle ( well thats here in australia) .
what info that i have on the 1974 R90S. seial number as follows engine: 4070001 - 4080000 production: 09/73 - 08/74 not sure if thats correct or not but that is what i have listed. anyway if / when you do buy it and you dont like it , ill look after it for you , it will be well looked after !
