Sibbo, you probably remember this thread - you started it in 2010 -

You'll recall I fitted the LEDs in question, and am still very pleased with them ...

However, good as they are for riding at moderate speed in the twisties, and seeing critters on the side of the road, I still don't have enough light out the front. I need something that will penetrate. I want to be able to see that mob of pissed 'roos lurking around in their camo gear a few hundred metres ahead when I'm travelling at speed on a straight road. For this, I think a bright spot with a narrow beam, say 10 to 20 degrees, would work. I like the look of these -

I'd really like to see them in action. A combination of spot and flood is the way to go, IMO.

The two together sounds like a good idea Charlie, the Jaycar spot is 2.4 amps versus the US Ebay one at 1.67amps . The extra could be worthwhile if we can run it. What do you think?

The prices would be about the same after post and the $ rate exchange .

I picked up this mofo from the disposals store. The bloke reckons I only need one on the RS.

I dunno, but I reckon I'd need one on the other crash bar as well.

Would an enduralst alternator be better than the one from motolectrics or will the oe be fine?

Peter, I wouldn't worry too much about whether the bike's electrics can handle the current draw for any of the LED auxiliary lights. The Jaycar, at 2.4 Amps, is only 29 Watts. The US ebay one is only a couple of watts more than one turn signal bulb. Bugger all, really.

I had a look at the Jaycar version in the flesh a couple of weeks ago - it is big - too big for my liking. They only had the flood type at the time, so I couldn't see the spot in operation. The size of it put me off anyway.

The thing about the US ebay version is that there are two of them. If one gives enough light, then the other can be passed on to somebody else, or if required and possible, mount both to give a huge amount of light. I only use the LEDs for high beam work and there is the option of disconnecting the main headlight high beam but keep the low beam. The existing headlight is a pretty dim yellow. Puts out lots of heat, but the beam kind of droops onto the road, reminding me of my 6 Volt VeeDub days.

I reckon you'll need one each side to stay balanced, Jeff. Symmetry is good. And you'll prolly need to pull a trailer with a fekkin' big diesel generator to power them. At least I might be able to keep up with you then.

Thanks Charlie, anything with wires coming out of it is something of a mystery to me but being able to turn off the high beam seems like A REALLY good idea , mine is OK if I travel slowly and I do because of the not quite enough kind of light, much better than my old trail bike days but still lots of heat and not enough light.

I'll go up to Jaycar next Tuesday and see how big their offering is, there are no dimensions on the page .

The US ebay offering is almost as wide, but only half as high.
Ask the Jaycar salesthing to hook both the flood and the spot up to a 12V supply so you can see the brightness and pattern.

You're right, I must be going blind or something . I probably won't get much of an idea of the pattern in daytime or in the shop .

The US Ebay version is a spot but we'd both like a combination of a spot and a wider beam. I'll email the seller and ask if that is a possible sale.

I found the same lights on Oz Ebay.

Almost all those appear to be available in a range of beem pattern, the only difference being the lense.
If your interested in the 2x20w unit ie: 4 globes, then perhaps you could buy the 8 degree beem spots and replace only 2 lense's with 30 or 60 degree ones... giving you both a spot beem and a wide beem... doesnt hurt to ask them ?
