This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

Ah now Grant, I'm sure you know we are all committed to moderation ... y'know ... in moderation.
Your sweet RS and your good self will get a toasting when we get to the 'absent friends' part of the ceremony.

Have a good one yourself and give the Chevy a fondle from each of us.

Gidday Charlie,

Well put once again as always, and your one of the reasons for my constant "looking in" from time to time on here Charlie is to read your words/sentences that you string together mate..... Lovely

Charlie below is what I wrote on my chev blog a few days ago and this is what I have planned for today, Monty is sitting out in the resto shed just bitting at the bit to get going and now on this lovely saturday morning the run will start soonish, the confindence is right up there that a good few miles will be covered, well as many as one can do in an industrial yard without getting dizzy... Thanks

This morning while sitting with hot coffee in hand, staring out the window at the misty rain laying itself down on the garden, where's the sunshine??, they said sunny skies today!!. I got to thinking about giving the Chev a really good long run, well a longish run for a non registered vehicle away, get that old engine nice and hot for a few hours, give all that thick diff oil and gearbox oil a really good working over before the body is installed back on the chassis, if there is anything to sort out then now would be a good time to do it....
A family relo has a very large, fully paved, very smooth industrial area in town so this week a phone call is in order to arrange the use of that area for this Sat or Sun if the weather is fine.
First I must install the speedo back onto the temporary wooden dash so that correct mph and total distance for the trail can be measured but most importantly the drivers chair will have to be re-screwed down a little firmer and maybe even some padding added?, then I will trailer the bodiless Chev over there, fill up the fuel tank, oil all the correct points around the engine plus take a few tools and other things with me.
As I have always said, Monty will be driven quite a lot once the resto is completed, it had been my goal, although a little tentatively at times, right from the first time we turned the dusty, oily old motor over 11 months ago, fix it, use it, enjoy it.
Cheers, Grant

Wonderful stuff, Grant. And great to know that Monty will be used properly - not just driven to rallies.
Brun is coming together (been off the road for 6 weeks or so) - just doing the rear shock refurb at the moment.

Spoke to Pete this morning - he was at the Jingellic pub just a few weeks ago and reckons all is well with the camp ground.
Just heard from Bob. He's going to be there on the weekend.

Hi guys, it sounds like fun that you'll be having soon. Of course I won't be there but I'm hoping you will remember my RS when you're making toasts. It's named The Captain. It is used mostly for trips, though I like to take long days when I'm on the road and I end up tied in knots from the position.

It's named after the man from who I bought the bike. He had a fatal condition that wasn't specifically told to me but he was trying to sell what he could to make things easier on his wife. His name was Dave Morgan........so, that made me think of Captain Morgan and I told him the bike would be named The Captain after him. That connection and the amount of miles traveled and work I've done make it hard for me to think of passing it on. I keep thinking I could enjoy the long days more in a little more upright position and after each trip I think of selling The Captain and getting something more upright. Hasn't happened yet, though.

Get the Captain (and yourself) some K75S bars.
2" higher otherwise the same.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Thanks Chuey for the story of how the Captain got its name. Thats a bike with significant provenance.
I once called a guy about his old boxer (R100/7) he had for sale, and he was similarly disposed with only weeks to live.
We chatted about bikes and riding for a good while. It was chilling. I didn't buy it, he was asking way too much for what it was, but I didn't tell him that. How do you haggle with a guy at a time like that? But you know, I like to think someone did, and they gave him a fair price, and they gave the bike an honourable name.

We will be sure to toast the Captain's birthday!

Hi y'all,
I just spoke to Peter at jinjellic pub. He says campground is looking "fantastic" and is as good as ever - has been repaired since the floods (grass replanted new drainage etc). Apparently there;s a 'festival' of some sorts up there next w/end so he says best to get in early if we want the el primo sites - looks as though Chas and I (at the least) will be heading up there on the Friday so we can do just that.
My plan is to head off from my work (Melton) Friday morn approx 10am, taking the scenic route (of course). In my estimation I won't b getting there 'till the roos are just about ready to pop - hopefully I'll b just ahead of 'em!
SteveD: will you be going Friday or Sat? If no steve, anyone else heading up Friday i might hook up with?
I just LURV birthday parties!

Hmmm "festival".

What sorta crowds they expecting I wonder? Is Tintaldra the better option then? Probably not..as it appears to be a regional thing.

Sounds like you'll have a great ride Friday Pete...forecast is excellent. I'm leaving late am Saturday.
