Re: Dead R65
Look at the red wires that meet under the starter relay. One of them may have intermittent connection. Basically BMW feeds the whole bike through the starter relay. One red wire comes in with power and the other one goes on to power everything in the headlight. The wires go to separate, but connecte...

Re: Woo Hoo! A Big Project!
I've created a bit of organization in my shop. I saw this idea in a high-end car collector's garage and my ambition rose to meet the idea: https://photos.smugmug.com/Shop/i-bTRsXjS/0/NGTtr9DJjp9qwCNnhfNrWMxddsvk3xCrcpFh6ZnwJ/L/ReferenceBoard10082025-L.jpg Mine is about half the size of the one I saw...

Re: R75/5 Fork Oil Level and Amount??
Yes, I use 250cc per leg in my 1970s /6 and /7 forks. I don't drain and refill--if I'm replacing oil the fork came pretty completely apart.

Re: E5/E10 Petrol
My bikes run just fine on E10 but they don't like sitting with it. When I lived in California and could only get E10, if the bike was going to sit for a while I'd park it with a full tank and Startron fuel stabilizer. I always run the float bowls dry when I park the bikes. I had good luck with this ...

Re: Sticking / Dragging Front Brembo Brakes
Additional pro tip for the Mechanic From Hell wedgie technique: Have the reservoir nearly empty before you push the pistons back as the act of pushing them back will move fluid from bottom to top.

Re: Idiot v. Motorbikes, Rounds 3, 4, and 5
I played about a little bit today. First, I wanted to see if I could, by one means or another, get the frame to sit like a Featherbed, where the horizontal elements are pretty much horizontal, as seen here: https://photos.smugmug.com/Elvis/i-WVc7R4L/0/MPNjq2NVfvnfFWk9qW34hgWPqFntTRqbk8q2J9vFH/L/Elvi...

OK, here's the formal start to Elvis. I'm a bit between funds right now but there's plenty of low budget stuff to do with an eye toward hearing the motor roar and getting some subsystems (electrics and wheels for a couple) ready for prime time. First, here's the situation today: https://photos.smugm...

Re: Idiot v. Motorbikes, Rounds 3, 4, and 5
Ernst (my R75/6) is running again and has cleaned out my play money account for a bit. I'll be doing low budget stuff with an eye to hearing Elvis run this year. Not sure if I'll be able to do enough to make Elvis street legal this year. Meanwhile in the shop, my son has claimed the repair plinth: h...

Re: R75/5 blowing fuses when starting
When my son installed the motor he built in his Z28 Camaro and tried to start it, we saw smoke coming off a small ground strap that was part of the ignition system. In doing his mods he had lost the original ground path through a much larger ground strap. Once he had a 0 gauge ground connection, it ...

Re: Woo Hoo! A Big Project!
Well, it was time to DO SOMETHING! And here we are, with Something Done: https://photos.smugmug.com/Ernst/i-NH87SXM/0/LTw8g6hcskQ6cbGpkX3R6t4qzfMCS4FWxHLX4nj7K/L/Ernst31-L.jpg Yes, that's Ernst off the plinth for the first time in 3 years! I maneuvered him to face the open door to keep that first st...
